Retro Mobile 2018

We had wanted to go to the Salon Retro Mobile for years.  As much as we dislike Paris, we made the plans and bought the tickets because this is one of the biggest car shows in the world.  Wouldn't you know it, Paris had endured terrible weather and the Seine flooded the weekend before our arrival.  On top of that, it snowed.  Not just a little snow, a lot.  But off to Paris we went.

The exhibits were housed in three huge pavilions at the Porte de Versailles exhibition center and for sure, every vehicle known to mankind was there and was for sale.  If you couldn't find the car you wanted, there was row after row of scale model cars in any size, level of detail, and price range you could need.

Need a 1995 EB 110 Bugatti?  Here's one, good as new.  $1,000,000 plus.

How about an early 1950's Bentley R Type?  Better than new?  Over $1.5 million.

Or, a World War I Renault tank!  There were three of them there for sale for who knows how much.

We spent two days at the show and it lived up to our expectations.  Here are some other interesting examples, most of which, again, were for sale.

Drop dead gorgeous Talbot:

A tribute to driver and constructor Jean-Pierre Wimille, who had some interesting ideas:

And whoever came up with this probably found the parts at the hangar.  Couldn't find the wings, so, whatever:

As mentioned before, this is scale model lover's heaven:

And finally, a Lamborghini.  As they say in the British car ads, "POA".

It's nice to be back in (relatively) warm Nice.  Carnival starts in less than a week.  The next big adventure for us will be Formula 1 testing at Circuit de Catalunya outside Barcelona in early March.
